New Teacher

God answers prayer! Today a new teacher began at our school. She will be teaching our Transition Class. For those students who are new to the English Language. Pray for us as we begin the process of training. There is no curriculum for her to follow but we have big hopes for lots of games, songs and play for our kids as they learn the basics or our language.

Transition

Have you ever learned a second language? These boys are in the beginning
stages of learning English. It's a challenge when your also studying Arabic
in the afternoons. Your "s" tend to be backwards and letter recognition has
a new layer of complexity but they are trying their very best to keep up.
Normally they would be in a Transition classroom, full of older students who
are also learning English for the first time but because we are short on
teachers they are enrolled in our Pre-Nursery class, full of 4 and 5 yr
olds. So I've been pulling out a group of boys each morning to work on
numbers, colors, and letters. They are so much fun. Despite what you may see
here they really do smile! Be praying for these boys that they would love
learning and coming to school and be praying for Hope Academy as we continue
our search for more teachers.

Roasting Marshmallows Emi-Woro Style

There are a lot of firsts happening every day. Roasting Marshmallows is just one of many. Things that have become so normal. Like cooking white puffy sweets over a fire, suddenly become really special again.  Not wanting to miss out on any more really special firsts I am extending my time in Nigeria.
